1. How do you define communication?
Communication is the ability of giving and receiving information like facts, ideas and opinions by sharing and understanding one another.
2. What is the role of communication in management of business?
To have success in any kind of business it is essential to have good communication within all the parts of the organization. It is also very important within business communication to be very formal in order to prevent miscommunication, since vital information may be lost if the communication channels are not used correctly.
3. What are the different purposes of communication? Briefly explain any five of them.
1-.Instruction: It has a commanding nature, it is used when the communicator transmits guidance and instructions to the listener.
2-.Integration: It´s purpose is more inter-relationship based. Its main objective is unification.
3-. Information: Ir is used in order to provide facts, in order for the listeners to recap the information.
4-. Influencing: It's main purpose is to influence others or to be influenced. The main hability needed in order for this type of communication to be effective is to be persuasive.
5-.Teaching: This communication process is used to teach and educate or teach others. Teaching is used to provide necessary information for the listener to learn certain topics.
4. Discuss the different situations when the communication exists.
Communication happens when a person wants to transmit information to someone else. Then the receiver has to receive information and process it in order to understand what the transmitter is communicating. At last the receiver has the option to respond to the message.
5. “Communication is an exchange of facts, ideas, opinions and emotions by two or more persons.” Explain the statement and discuss the role of feedback in communication.
Ir is a definition of communication, since communication is a two way process (give/receive) then for a successful communication it is very important to give and receive feedback on the information that was provided during the communication process.
6. “Communication is the two way process.” Explain.
It is a two way process because the way communication works is to provide the information (transmitter) and then the listener receives the information. After that the listener has the option to answer to the transmitter, if this happens then we would be talking about a conversation.
7. Discuss the elements of communication process.
The sender or transmitter is the person who initiates the message that would be provided to the receiver. The message is the subject of every conversation, there would be no communication if there's not a subject to talk about. The message has to be encoded so the receiver can decode the message. There are different communication channels so the sender has the responsibility to choose the correct one in order for the receiver to be able to receive the message.
8. Give three examples of brain drain in communication process.
1-. If the transmitter chooses a wrong communication channel, for example: John wants to communicate with his co-worker, his co-worker does not have a computer and John tries to communicate with him by sending him an email.
2-.The listener is not paying enough attention to the transmitter´s message, then the listener would be missing some information about the message that has just been sended to him or her.
3-. Different languages: This happens when the transmitter wants to communicate with someone that does not speak the same language. The information would not be received correctly by the receiver.
I like the idea of "to be successful you have to communicate", I agree with that. It is an important factor in meeting goals and objectives.
ReplyDeleteHi Gerardo!, wow, I have read your job, I totally agree in your second point, the role of communication in business is being the essential of everything!, with it we can organized, be more productive, avoiding the misunderstandings or the fail processes like cases where happens the famous ‘brain drain’ for select the incorrect channels or vocabulary.
ReplyDeleteWe wrote about ‘for influencing’ too, I think that we can talk more about it, for example, I added a line about ‘be a leader’, this person has the ability to persuade people and he does it in a positive way, but unfortunately not everyone can be a leader and motivate another easily, what do you think?
Fantastic, I understood pretty well your examples about ‘brain drain’, those happen all the time and even all of them have happened to me a few times. But we know now how to act in those cases, right?
That´s true Jacqueline, in order to influenciate people you have to have persuasive and if you are a persuasive person then you have taken a step forward towards becoming a leader. Also I think the same way as you "not everyone has what it takes to be a leader" and I also think that there´s also good leaders and bad leaders. Thank you for your reply!
DeleteVery good discussion.
DeleteI like what you say about choosing the right channel to communicate because it is important to use something that both sender and receiver can work with to make communication more effective.
ReplyDeleteHello Gerardo, I really enjoyed reading your ideas because we share a few of them. When you describe success by having effective communication I totally share the idea; as I said in my job communication could be the blood of the organization.
ReplyDeleteYou did a really great job!
I really enjoyed reading this work, you explained everything so well and so detailed that is really eassy to understan for anyone who doesn't know about this subject, and I agree with your answers as they are really similars to mine, also I really love what you said about business communication "To have success in any kind of business it is essential to have good communication" Which is completely true, no matter what company is, if that company doesn't hav good communication failure is the future of those companies.
